Ripple in 2026: After the Lawsuit, RLUSD and a Buying Spree
Ripple ended its SEC fight, launched RLUSD and bought into prime brokerage and corporate treasury. What its strategy means for cross-border payments.

Key takeaways
- Ripple's legal fight with the SEC ended in 2025.
- Its stablecoin RLUSD reached about $2.49B by September 2026.
- Acquisitions in brokerage and treasury show Ripple targeting corporate money flows.
For most of the 2020s, Ripple was known mainly for a court case. That chapter closed in 2025. What's emerged since is a very different company: less about one token, more about owning the boring, profitable plumbing that moves money between businesses.
The lawsuit is over
The US securities regulator's case against Ripple, filed in 2020, ended in 2025 when both sides dropped their appeals. Whatever you thought of the case, its end removed the single biggest reason banks and payment companies hesitated to work with Ripple in the US.
RLUSD: the stablecoin that ties it together
Ripple launched its own dollar stablecoin, RLUSD, at the end of 2024. It's aimed squarely at institutions: banks, payment providers, brokers. By the end of September 2026 its supply had reached roughly $2.49 billion, up more than 86% in nine months, with about 56% on Ethereum and 44% on the XRP Ledger. Its reserves are held with a New York-chartered trust company, and it won approval in Japan this year.
That growth is modest next to USDT or USDC. But RLUSD isn't really competing for retail wallets. It's the settlement asset inside Ripple's own network.

The acquisitions tell the story
In 2025 Ripple went shopping. It bought Hidden Road, a prime brokerage; Rail, a stablecoin payments platform; and GTreasury, a corporate treasury software company, for about $1 billion. Put together, the strategy is clear:
- Payments to move money between companies and countries.
- Treasury software where big companies already manage their cash.
- Brokerage to provide liquidity and credit to institutions.
- A stablecoin running underneath all three.
Ripple wants to be where a CFO already works, then offer stablecoin settlement as a better option for cross-border flows.
Ripple's bet is simple: the biggest stablecoin opportunity isn't in wallets. It's inside corporate treasury.
What about XRP?
XRP still exists and still has a passionate community, and the XRP Ledger remains a fast, cheap network with a built-in exchange. But in 2026 Ripple talks far more about RLUSD, payments and custody than about the token. For businesses that's good news: they can use the rails without needing a view on any token's price.
What it means for cross-border payments
Ripple's moves make life easier for anyone building on stablecoin rails. More licensed payout partners, more liquidity in more currencies, more institutions comfortable holding digital dollars. Its stated focus markets for 2026 include the UAE, Nigeria and Turkey, all large remittance and trade corridors.
For households, the effect is indirect but real. Every time a big, regulated player builds payout routes into a new country, the cost of getting money there on stablecoin rails falls a little, and that's money that stays with families instead of disappearing into the pipes.
We don't think one network will win everything. Ripple, Stellar and the big general-purpose chains are each strong in different places. The products that win will be the ones that use all of them without asking the user to care.
