Key takeaways

  • Western Union remains the largest remittance company by revenue at $4.05 billion in 2025, but its consumer transfer revenue fell 8% while Remitly's revenue grew 29%.
  • Wise is the largest by money moved, with $243.5 billion of cross-border volume in its year to March 2026 at an average take rate of 0.52%.
  • In the UAE, exchange houses such as Lulu Exchange and Al Ansari still carry most remittances through branches, even as their digital share rises.

At about nine on a Friday night, the queue outside an exchange house in Dubai's Al Karama runs past the pharmacy next door. Most people in it already have a money transfer app on their phone. They are queuing anyway, some for cash, some for a rate they trust, some because the cashier knows their name. That scene is a useful corrective to the idea that the remittance business has already gone digital. The biggest companies in 2026 are a mix of 170-year-old agent networks, listed apps growing at 30% a year, and Gulf exchange houses with hundreds of branches. Size depends on which yardstick you pick.

How we chose and ranked these companies

We ranked companies by measurable scale as of October 2026: revenue from money transfer in the latest reported full year, send volume, and active customers, using annual reports, quarterly filings and company releases. Where a company is private, we use the figures it has disclosed and say so. We do not rank on price or service quality, and nothing here is a recommendation.

One caution before the numbers. These businesses do not report the same things. Western Union and Euronet count transactions. Wise reports cross-border volume and a financial year that ends in March. Remitly reports send volume. Gulf exchange houses report operating income in dirhams. We have kept each figure in the form the company gives it, with the period attached, rather than forcing them into a single column that would hide the differences.

For context, the World Bank's Remittance Prices Worldwide database put the global average cost of sending $200 at 6.36% in Q3 2025. Every company below is competing for a share of that margin, and the fastest-growing ones are the ones pushing it down.

Who are the largest remittance companies in 2026?

By 2025 money transfer revenue, the largest remittance company in the world is still Western Union, at about $4.1 billion of total revenue. Wise is second on net revenue for its year to March 2026, followed by Euronet's Ria segment and Remitly. By send volume the order changes: Wise moved $243.5 billion across borders in its latest year, more than three times Remitly's $74.9 billion.

Which companies lead on revenue?

The revenue leaders in 2025 were Western Union, Wise, Euronet's money transfer arm and Remitly. Western Union's revenue is shrinking slightly while the digital players grow quickly, so the gap is closing. Remitly grew revenue 29% in 2025; Western Union's consumer money transfer revenue fell 8%.

Western Union

Western Union reported 2025 revenue of $4.05 billion, down 4%, with consumer money transfer revenue of $3.51 billion across 285.9 million transactions, according to its full-year results. Its branded digital business made up 30% of consumer transfer revenue and 39% of transactions in the fourth quarter. It operates in more than 200 countries and territories. On 4 May 2026 it launched its own dollar stablecoin, USDPT, issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on Solana and used first for settlement with agents in the Philippines and Bolivia, The Block reported. A consumer feature, Stable by Western Union, is due in more than 40 countries during 2026.

Wise

Wise is the largest by volume. In its year to 31 March 2026 it moved $243.5 billion across borders, up 31%, for 18.9 million active customers, on net revenue of $2.50 billion and pre-tax income of $660.4 million, per its FY26 results. Its cross-border take rate fell to 0.52%. Wise is now listed on both Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange, and sells its infrastructure to banks through Wise Platform.

Ria Money Transfer (Euronet)

Euronet's money transfer segment, built around Ria, earned $1.78 billion of revenue in 2025, up 6%, on 183.4 million transactions, according to Euronet's results. Its network reached about 639,000 locations at the end of 2025. Direct-to-consumer digital transactions in internationally originated transfers grew 31%, a sign that even agent-heavy players are moving customers to apps.

Remitly

Remitly is the fastest-growing of the large listed players. Revenue rose 29% to $1.64 billion in 2025, send volume rose 37% to $74.9 billion, and it reported net income of $67.9 million after a loss the year before, per its fourth-quarter release. It had 9.3 million active customers in Q4 2025 and guided to revenue of $1.94 billion to $1.96 billion for 2026.

Who are the big private and retail-network players?

MoneyGram, Intermex and Zepz are the largest remitters outside the Western Union, Wise and Remitly trio. MoneyGram is privately held and discloses little. Intermex is being bought by Western Union, a deal held up in California as of October 2026. Zepz has cut costs hard and is growing again.

MoneyGram

MoneyGram says it serves more than 50 million customers across 200-plus countries and territories through nearly 500,000 retail locations, according to a 2026 announcement with the Stellar Development Foundation. It has launched a dollar stablecoin balance in its app, built with Circle's USDC on Stellar, first in Colombia and then in El Salvador. Customers can cash out at its agents, which is the part crypto-native apps cannot easily copy.

Intermex

Intermex is a US-to-Latin America specialist that reported 2024 revenue of $658.6 million and $24.4 billion of principal sent. Western Union agreed in August 2025 to buy it for $16 a share in cash, about $500 million. New York approved the deal, but on 13 August 2026 California's regulator suspended its approval extension pending further review, according to the companies' joint update. As of mid-October 2026 we found no announcement that the deal had closed. Intermex's first-half 2026 revenue fell 17% to $253 million.

Zepz (WorldRemit and Sendwave)

Zepz has more than 9 million customers, about 8 million transactions a month, 50 sending markets and 130 receiving countries, according to an FXC Intelligence interview in January 2026. Revenue fell to $420.1 million in 2024 on $14.7 billion of volume, but the company says it ended 2025 growing about 25%, after cutting annual operating costs nearly in half since 2022. Sendwave launched a USDC-based dollar wallet in October 2025.

Which remittance companies are biggest in the UAE and the Gulf?

In the UAE, the largest remittance companies are exchange houses rather than apps. Lulu Exchange remitted $19.7 billion in 2024 and claims more than 14% of Gulf remittance volume. Al Ansari, listed in Dubai, earned AED1.29 billion of operating income in 2025 from 444 branches. Both now push digital channels, but branches still carry most of the money.

Lulu Exchange

Lulu Exchange, part of Lulu Financial Holdings, handled about $19.7 billion of remittances in 2024 and projected about $22 billion for 2025, roughly 2% of global flows, a senior Lulu executive told Semafor in December 2025. These are company-stated figures; Lulu Financial Holdings is private and does not publish audited volumes. It says it has more than 14% of Gulf remittance volume and is aiming for a double-digit global share by 2030, an ambitious target for an operator of its size.

Al Ansari Exchange

Al Ansari Financial Services reported 2025 operating income of AED1.29 billion, up 12%, and net profit of AED401 million, with 444 branches after buying Bahrain's BFC Group, per Zawya. In the first half of 2025 it processed 28 million transactions, and digital channels carried 23% of outward remittances.

The Gulf matters because of where the money goes. India received $135.46 billion of remittances in 2024-25, the most of any country. RBI's survey for 2023-24 found the US supplied 27.7% of that and the UAE 19.2%, with the UK at 10.8%, as Business Standard reported. The UAE-to-India corridor is covered in detail in our UAE to India money transfer guide, and the wider corridor in Gulf to South Asia remittances.

Where do Revolut, PayPal Xoom and the newer apps fit?

Revolut and PayPal are large in money movement but are not remittance companies first. Revolut reported $6.0 billion of revenue in 2025 across all its banking products. PayPal's Xoom serves about 160 countries but PayPal does not break out its figures. Newer diaspora apps such as Félix and Taptap Send are smaller but growing on narrow corridors.

Revolut

Revolut reported 2025 revenue of $6.0 billion, pre-tax profit of $2.3 billion and 68.3 million retail customers, with total transaction volume of $1.7 trillion, per its annual results. It does not report a cross-border transfer figure, so it cannot be ranked on remittance volume. It is a bank in more than 30 of its 40 markets.

PayPal Xoom

Xoom sends money to about 160 countries and in April 2024 let US users fund transfers with PayPal's PYUSD stablecoin, according to IBS Intelligence. Its scale is hidden inside PayPal's consolidated results.

Félix and other diaspora apps

Félix, which serves US-to-Latin America senders in 11 markets including Mexico and Colombia, raised $200 million in September 2026 in equity and debt, led by Andreessen Horowitz, and says it has more than 6 million users and $8 billion processed since launch, per FinTech Futures. Taptap Send, which focuses on underserved corridors into Africa and Asia, raised a $65 million Series B led by Spark Capital in December 2021, TechCrunch reported; it has not disclosed a newer round that we could find. Both are ones to watch because they show how a single-corridor focus can still produce scale.

Worked example: what each company earns on a transfer

Dividing revenue by transactions or volume gives a rough sense of what each business earns. These are averages across all transfer sizes and corridors, not prices any customer will be quoted.

  • Western Union: $3,507.4 million of consumer transfer revenue over 285.9 million transactions is about $12.27 per transfer.
  • Ria: $1,782.4 million over 183.4 million transactions is about $9.72 per transfer.
  • Remitly: $1,635 million on $74.9 billion of send volume is about 2.2% of the amount sent.
  • Wise: its reported cross-border take rate is 0.52%.

Now apply those to a $200 transfer. The World Bank's 6.36% average implies about $12.72 of cost. Western Union's average revenue per transfer, $12.27, sits close to that, although its average transfer is larger than $200. Remitly's 2.2% would be about $4.40. Wise's 0.52% would be about $1.04, but Wise's average transfer is much larger than $200, so a small transfer can cost more than the percentage suggests. The point is not which is cheapest on a given day. It is that the business models differ by an order of magnitude, and that difference is why digital players keep taking share.

The biggest remittance company by revenue and the biggest by volume are not the same firm, and the gap between them explains the market.

What to watch next

The order of this list could change within a year. Four things will decide it.

  • The Intermex deal: Western Union and Intermex said in August 2026 they would close promptly once California reinstates approval. Until then, Western Union's 2026 guidance of 5% to 8% revenue growth leans heavily on the acquisition.
  • Stablecoin cash-out: MoneyGram's stablecoin wallet is expanding across Central and South America during 2026, and Western Union, which launched USDPT in May 2026, plans to roll out its Stable consumer feature in more than 40 countries this year. Both bet that agent networks become the cash ramp for digital dollars. Our stablecoin payments trends piece tracks the wider shift.
  • Remitly's 2026 target: revenue of $1.94 billion to $1.96 billion would put it within reach of Euronet's money transfer segment on revenue by its full-year 2026 results, due early in 2027.
  • Gulf digital share: Al Ansari's digital channels carried 23% of outward remittances in early 2025. Whether that passes a third by 2027 will show how fast Gulf exchange houses can defend their base against apps.
